PALO ALTO – Ripon’s Andrew Bonner fired a 36-hole score of 134, 6-under par to take medalist honors at the U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifying held at Stanford GC. The city of San Jose was well represented as positions two through four went to city residents Justin Suh, Shintaro Ban and Eddy Lai. Suh finished alone in second at 138, 2-under par, while Ban earned solo third with a 142 and Lai took fourth with a 143. The final qualifying spot went to Escondido’s Tyler Moore, who finished at a 4-over total 144.
Missing out on qualifying for the championship were Anthony Murdaca from Australia and Jimmy Castles of Cupertino. Both players posted 36-hole scores of 145 good enough to earn first and second alternate spots respectively. For the five boys that did qualify, they will now move on to the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, July 16-21 at the GC of New England in Stratham, New Hampshire.
