REDDING – Kurt Kitayama shot back-to-back 71s to win the 2012 Redding Open by a three-stroke margin. His 2-under 142 36-hole total bettered Mitch Card and Bob LeDoux, who both finished at 1-over par 145. Card tied for the low round Sunday as he posted a 2-under par 70 to jump from a tie for fifth to a tie for second. LeDoux started the final round one shot back after an even-par 72, but couldn’t close with a better score Sunday as he posted a 1-over 73.
Finishing alone in fourth was Josh Baskins, who matched Card’s Sunday 70 after a Saturday 77 for a 147 total. Russell Nygard, a 2012 NCGA Public Links runner-up, took fifth with back-to-back 74s for a 148 total. Brothers Brian and Taylor Knoll finished tied for sixth at a 36-hole total of 149. Brian, the older of the two, had a share of the first round lead after a 71, but finished with a 78 Sunday.
Lew Garbutt won the senior division with a 36-hole score of 147. His rounds of 75 and 72 beat out the sparse field of five players. Finihsing in second was Mike Mikkola at 151, while Terry Leach took third with a 159 total.
