ROHNERT PARK – R.C. Orr beat Steve Warne on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the Sonoma County Amateur. The two players tied after 36 holes at 145 with both players shooting rounds of 70 and 75. However, Orr opened with a 70 to take a two-shot lead after 18 holes, while Warne closed with his 70 in the final round. Finishing two strokes out of a playoff was Nick Frisk at 147. Frisk started the final round nine shots off the lead after opening with a 79 and made a furious comeback posting a final round 68 to just come up short. Matthew Medeiros finished alone in fourth with a 148 total, while Aidan Pinch and Cory Synnestvedt tied for fifth at 149.
In the senior division Jim Duncan won by five-stroke margin of victory after posting a 36-hole score of 147. Duncan opened with a 76, but closed with a 71, the best final round score to run away with the event. Andy Ibarra, Les Mitsuoka and Greg O’Malley finished tied for second at 152. Ibarra shot back-to-back rounds of 76, Mitsuoka had the 18-hole lead with a 72 but closed with an 80 and O’Malley shot rounds of 73 and 79. Rounding out the top five was Randy Blankenbaker at 153.
