CARMEL – Harding Park GC didn’t match its stellar play from yesterday, but the first round leaders did just enough to win the NCGA San Francisco Bay Zone Championship. The team from Harding Park, which consisted of Jim Kraft, Steve Mellinger, Bill Selmi and James Smith, fired a net score of 9-under par 133 Friday to finish at 30-under par, 256. Despite nine of the 18 teams finishing their final rounds with a score of 132 or better on Friday, Harding Park GC was able to walk away with a two-stroke margin of victory. In a format which calls for the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team, Harding Park only managed two net eagles in its final round, that coming after a first round filled with net eagles as the quartet managed to score seven on Thursday.
Vidal Carlin, Greg Hall, David Killam and Jack Yeadaker from Gleneagles GC finished alone in second after posting a two-day total of 258. After a first round net score of 14-under par 130, the Gleneagles team posted another 14-under par score (128) Friday at the par 71 Quail Lodge GC. The team’s 258 total edged out third place finisher Shoreline GC, which shot the low round of the day with a 15-under par 127 for a 259 aggregate. Palo Alto GC, which started the final round in second place, fell back in a tie for fourth with Palo Alto Hills GC as the two teams finished at 26-under par 260.
The teams from Harding Park GC and Gleneagles GC will now move on to play in the NCGA Zone Championship at Poppy Hills GC and Spyglass Hill GC August 27-28.

PEBBLE BEACH – Richard Dalton of Shoreline GC tried to keep his team in contention by making a hole-in-one on the 15th hole at Poppy Hills GC. The eagle helped the team finish with a 132, 12-under par which was good enough for a tie for fifth place. Finishing the day with a five-stroke lead was James Smith, Bill Selmi, Steve Mellinger and Jim Kraft of Harding Park GC. The team of four finished the day with a 123, 21-under par. In a format which takes the two low net scores of a four-man team, Shoreline GC went through an eight hole stretch with five eagles and one double eagle to help them pull away from the pack.
Palo Alto GC shot an impressive 128, 16-under par to hold on to second place. Following closely in third is Gleneagles GC who shot a 130, 14-under par. Rounding out the top five are Palo Alto GCC in fourth and Meadow Club and Shoreline GC in a tie for fifth.
The final round is set to be played June 1st at Quail Lodge GC. The top two teams will move on to the Zone Championship on August 27-28, 2012 which will take place at Spyglass Hill GC and Poppy Hills GC.
