PEBBLE BEACH – Low net scores were abundant across the 10 associate club four-ball net qualifying sites. More than 300 teams attempted to qualify for 60 spots in the championship field, which will take place June 25-26 at Spyglass Hill GC and Poppy Hills GC.
Ancil Hoffman GC, Chardonnay GC and Deer Ridge GC all hosted the largest qualifiers with eight qualifying spots being allotted at each of them. The Deer Ridge qualifier saw the lowest net score of any of the qualifiers as Alex Magpantay and Brian Smith of Bay City GC shot a net 56. Brian McMonagle and Craig O’Connor of Grips Fast GC shot a net 59 at Chardonnay to take low honors there, while similarly at Ancil Hoffman a net 59 put Mark Trentham and Ronald Custodio of Pac Bell GC of Sacto atop the leaderboard.
Indian Valley GC, Laguna Seca GR, Lockeford Springs GC and Riverside GC each held the smallest qualifying fields divvying up three spots a piece for the championship. James Dirienzo and Dermot Burke of Blarneyballers GC tied with Steve Katz and Jeff Hallam of Lawyers & Judges Golf as both teams shot a net 59 at Indian Valley for low honors. Laguna Seca and Lockeford Springs saw slightly higher qualifying scores as both courses didn’t see a team shoot lower than a net 62. Edward Claessen and Mitch Hosaka of the Caddy Club of Pebble Beach shot a net 62 at Laguna Seca, while Nate Green and Jack Kennedy of E & J Gallo Winery matched that at Lockeford Springs. Riverside GC saw the largest margin of victory as Baldeep Sanghera and Dalvinder Sanghera of E-Club Fresno shot a net 59, six shots better than the next closest team.
Poppy Ridge GC hosted two qualifiers across its 27 holes. The winning team on the Chardonnay and Zinfandel nines was Jason Luehrs and Jason Papciak of BDGE GC, who posted a net score of 58. On the Zinfandel and Merlot nines Charles Dupont and Mike Tracy of SRI GC led the way with a net 59. In total 10 people qualified from Poppy Ridge, five from each nine-hole combination.
The San Juan Oaks GC and Shoreline GC qualifiers were the next biggest qualifiers to the aforementioned three courses as each course had seven spots up for grabs. San Juan Oaks saw a tie at top between Eric Kuwada and Kevan Banton of Sequoia Fairway GC and Gary Yamamoto and Alan Tokunaga of Nichiyo GC as both teams shot a net 60. Quy Pham and Ron Omonde of San Jose Muni Egolf Clubhouse earned medalist honors at Shoreline as they fired a net 58.
