PEBBLE BEACH – Nearly 300 players attempted to qualify Thursday for the NCGA Master Division Championship on June 18-19 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills. Five qualifiers were held with 100 spots available, which will make up the championship field in addition to the 20 already exempt players.
Crystal Springs GC in Burlingame held the largest qualifier of the day as 26 spots were available. Jeff Britton led all players with a score of 74 on the day. A score of 82 or better was needed at Crystal Springs in order to qualify for June’s championship. At Darkhorse GC in Auburn Jeff Hoffman and Parrish Barker shot level-par 72s to share medalist honors. In total 23 qualifying spots were available at Darkhorse with an 80 or better solidifying a player’s spot in the championship field. Bruce Hanavan took low round honors with a 75 at Paradise Valley in Fairfield. The Paradise Valley qualifying scores were compacted compared to others as scores 75 through 79 earned one of 17 qualifying spots. Riverbend GC in Madera held the smallest qualifier of the day with only 11 spots available. Ron Collet and Joe Carrier tied for low round honors with 75s on the day. Roddy Ranch GC, the only qualifier with under-par scores, only surrendered two of them to Mark Casey and Brian Swenson, who both shot 71, respectively. Roddy Ranch was the second largest qualifier of the day with 62 players competing for 23 spots.
Results remain unofficial until the NCGA staff has reviewed all the scorecards from the five qualifiers.
