CGA Amateur Championship Qualifying
Bayonet/Black Horse GC
April 25, 2012
SEASIDE – Dalan Refioglu of Foster City converted four birdies and surrendered only one bogey on his way to a 3-under 69 to capture medalist honors at Wednesday’s CGA Amateur qualifier at Bayonet GC. Refioglu’s round saw his four birdies come on two par-5s (Nos. 10 and 18) and two par-3s (Nos. 4 and 6) with his lone bogey on the par-4 11th. Finishing in a tie for second place were Mac McClung and Nick Moore at 1-under par 71. Twenty year-old McClung, who shares the exact same birthday as Refioglu, scored five birdies on the day to go along with two bogeys and a double bogey. Moore took advantage of his home course as he scored six birdies on the day, but also relinquished strokes with five bogeys.
Five players came in at even par 72 good enough to tie for fourth and earn five of the nine available spots: Haejun Lee, Anthony Machi, Donovan Schmit, Luke Vivolo and Jordan Weir. Schmit scored the most birdies of the even par crowd as he converted five on the day to go along with a double bogey and three bogeys. Lee, Machi and Vivolo each had four birdies and four bogeys in their respective yet separate rounds, while Weir had two birdies and two bogeys for his level-par score. Kraig McLeod fought off four other players in a playoff for the final spot. The Pebble Beach resident found himself 3-over par through 11 holes, yet rallied to make two birdies over his final seven holes to get into the playoff. McLeod beat out Sean Dyer, Skyler Finnell, Daryl Green and Russell Humphrey, who all posted 1-over par 73s.
The 101st California State Amateur Championship will take place June 25-30 at La Cumbre CC in Santa Barbara. This is the third of 13 qualifiers statewide with the next qualifiers occurring on Monday April 30 at Santa Rosa GCC and Sierra View CC.
