Davis City Championship
April 14-15, 2012
DAVIS – The Davis City Championship saw some sizzling scores in the championship division this year, with Stockton’s Josh Stone shooting a 12-under 122 to win the event. His rounds of 60 and 62 were good enough to overtake first round leader Juan Gonzalez of Antelope at the par-67 golf course. Gonzalez posted an immortal score of 59 in the opening round, albeit on a shorter track, but followed that with a more humanly 64 on the second day for a 123 finish. Right behind Stone and Gonzalez was Woodland’s Nick Amen, who shot a 36-hole score of 10-under 124. From there a gap of six strokes separated third from a tie for fourth as four players posted 130.
In the senior division scores weren’t nearly as low as the winning score was 1-under 133. Tom Marks of Carmichael and Antioch’s Mark Miller both finished atop the leaderboard with Marks prevailing in a playoff. Dennis Dugan of Elk Grove finished alone in third at even-par 134. Ronald Wiley and Wade Nonnenberg finished in a tie for fourth with 138, respectively.
