Scratch Players Mid-Am and Senior Amateur
March 22-25, 2012
SANTA ROSA – Two of Northern California’s perennial players came away winners at the Scratch Players Mid-Am and Senior Amateur held at Mayacama, an event which features several out-of-state competitors. Six-time NCGA Player of the Year Randy Haag won the Mid-Am division winning his fourth event of the 2012 tournament season. Haag shot a 54-hole score of 220 for the stroke play portion of the event and then went on to win the shortened match play portion, which took the top-4 competitors due to weather delays. Also making the match play portion were two other NCGA members Fairfield’s Barry Logar (227) and Mendocino’s Hank McCusker (228). Other NCGA players who made it past the 36-hole cut, but failed to qualify for match play include Nick Ushijima (230), Mark Mance (230), Darryl Donovan (231) and Jerry Ledzinksi (239).
Jeff Burda, the 2008 Senior Player of the Year, shot the low 54-hole score in the senior division (223) to take the top match play seed. He met up with Jim Knoll in the final as Knoll had the second best 54-hole score posting a 227. Burda went on to beat Knoll in the final to earn 200 points on towards Senior Player of the Year race. Other NCGA senior players who made it past the 36-hole cut, but failed to qualify for match play include Mark Miller (232), Rich Morrison (233), John Enright (234), David Ujihara (235) and Terry Foreman (237).
