SAN FRANCISCO – Only four remain in the 2012 San Francisco City Senior Championship. After round of 16 and quarterfinal matches took place Wednesday and Thursday, Scott Anderson, Steven Hakes, John Seed and Jim Williams are the lone survivors.
Anderson won his round of 16 match over Topper Owen 5 and 3, and then went on to beat the No. 32 seed Tony Wilmer. Hakes cruised in his matches as beating 2009 SF City Senior champion Gary Vanier 4 and 3, and Fresno’s Doug Johnson 5 and 4. Williams also handled his matches fairly well, winning his first match 4 and 3 over Larry Riis and subsequently beating Greg Zipp 2 and 1. John Seed grinded the most out of the semifinalists as his match with Robert Miller went 19 holes and his quarterfinal match with Gene Van Puymbroeck went 17 holes with a 2 and 1 result.
Semifinal matches will take place Saturday March 10 with Anderson facing Hakes and Williams squaring off with Seed. The winners of those two matches will compete the next day (March 11) for SF City Senior title.
