The Junior Tour of Northern California, sponsored by Capital Insurance Group (CIG), continued its spring tournament season with Spring Series V at Oakmont CC in Santa Rosa.
Santa Rosa resident Nick Rogers shot an impressive two-day total of 1-under par 143 to win the Boys Championship Flight holding off three other players finishing two strokes back at 1-over par 145. Rogers shot a scorching 4-under par 68 to come from six shots back of the first round lead. Finishing in a three-way tie for second were Nicklaus Tiger Rivera of Redding, Roseville’s Corey Eddings and Hayden Shieh of Fremont. Rivera earned second place and Eddings third via a scorecard playoff. Rivera shot the second low round of the day with a 3-under 69 to finish at 145. Eddings proved to be fairly consistent as he followed his even par 72 with a 1-over 73 on Sunday, while first round leader Shieh followed his Saturday 69 with a 76.
Two-time Junior Tour of Northern California Girls’ Player of the Year, Casie Cathrea, cruised to a six-shot victory posting a two-day total of 147. The Livermore resident shot or tied for low-round honors both days with a 74 and 73, respectively. Kathleen Scavo of Benicia and San Francisco’s Alexandra Wong tied for second with 36-hole scores of 153. Scavo, matched Cathrea’s 73 on Sunday, shooting seven shots better than her first round score of 80. Wong played two steady days of golf with a 76 and 77, respectively.
Carmel Valley’s Read Reynolds beat Charles Osborne of Reno in a playoff to capture first place in the Boys’ First Flight. The two players finished 36 holes tied at 12-over par 156, with both players having different routes of getting there. Reynolds shot back-to-back 78s for his 156 total, while Osborne who had a three-stroke lead going into Sunday, followed a 75 with an 81. Finishing alone in third at 161 was Rashad Jaymes of Foster City.
In the Girls’ First Flight Antioch’s Sabrina Hope Virtusio shot a two-day total of 157 13-over par for first place. Virtusio beat out Pleasant Hill’s Yealimi Noh who earned her fifth medal of the year by posting a 36-hole score of 166. Finishing in third was Emily Rotter of Fremont with a 171 total.
