BRENTWOOD – After a rather surprising early exit in the San Francisco City Championship, Randy Haag had his weekend plans open up and entered amateurgolf.com’s Diablo Valley Amateur. The move proved to be a good one as Haag shot a 36-hole aggregate of 141 to give him a one-shot victory over 19 year-old Austin Roberts at 142. Haag’s win is his third of the 2012 season and it widens the point margin between him and his nearest competitor on the Player of the Year race by exactly double—Haag is currently at 550 points, while Cody Blick is in second at 275 points.
In the senior division Mark Miller won his fourth outright title of the 2012 season with a two-day score of 150. With the win Miller picked up 75 points and narrowed the gap between him and current senior points leader Casey Boyns to a mere 23 points—Boyns is at 573, Miller is in second at 550. The senior runner-up for the event was Walnut Creek’s Ron Johnson at 152. In his senior debut, Terry Foreman, who turned 55 on March 8, finished in third place at 156.
