What will happen if it rains on the day of the scheduled tournament?
Hi Brett
If it rains on the day a qualifier is scheduled we do the best we can to get at least nine holes playes as our policy says that every NCGA qualifying round is actually two stipulated 9-hole rounds. Now this assuming that there is no thunder or lightening in the area which would then suspend the event until it was safe to return to the course.
I hope that helps, but if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.
So let’s say we get 9 holes in and then the course is so waterlogged, and it’s pouring rain (but no lightning or thunder) but the course is deemed unplayable. Then what? Do we stop after 9 holes and the cut is made at 9 holes? Or do we get together again at a later date & time to complete the round? ALSO what if it is pouring so much and the course is already waterlogged, will you cancel or postpone to a later date?
Thanks.
Bergie
Are we allowed to use cart covers and/or cart heaters for the Public Links championship qualifier?
They are allowed so long as the course will allow you to use them. However I do not it as being a problem.
If the course ceases to become playable during a qualifying round, but the entire field has played nine holes, we would use those results to determine who qualifies (we just had to do that unfortunately for a senior qualifier earlier this month). If the course is unplayable at the start of the day(and by unplayable I mean the course would be closed otherwise), then we would do our very best to reschedule as soon as possible. There has only been a rare couple of cases in the past 30 years where a qualifier has not even started due to inclement weather. In those cases the qualifiers were determined by a sporting draw.
i will not play if it is raining the course is already water logged,im not playing in the water
Ryan thank you for the updates the current policy governing inclement seems reasonable, lets hope we can sneak into 18 holes between storms!
What is meant by a sporting draw?
Thanks for all of your Ryan. I guess we are all at the mercy of mother nature. Hopefully we can get 18 holes in. Let’s say part of the field has tee’d off, but has not completed 9 holes,at which point the course becomes unplayable (either due to greens becoming unputtable, or due to lightening, etc…). I would assume that you would try to reschedule asap, or draw lots.
A sporting draw simply means that entries would be pulled to determine who would get to go to the championship. I can tell you this has happened once in the last 30 years and it would only happen in the extremist of circumstances.
Ted:
We would do our best to get at least 9 holes in. If the entire has started play and does not complete 9 holes, we will do our best to continue the next day… Unfortunately like you said, we are at the mercy of mother nature.
Bring on the rain its part of golf, I did the north zone champ @ quail last year in a torrential rain storm it was a challenge, but I still had fun
Will we get a refund or credit if it comes down to a sporting draw? I don’t see Rooster Run being playable this week.
Im gonna have to drive 3 hrs and get a hotel room so if they cancel at the last min what happens?
When we were kids, we loved playing outside in the rain. What’s happened to us? Are we so soft that a little rain gets us all uppity? BRING IT ON! I hope it rains alot tomorrow and they don’t call it off. Half the field is already defeated in this instance. Play like a kid tomorrow, and I’ll see you at Spyglass!!
Ryan,
Would the start times be moved up if competitors withdraw or not show? What I mean is would a twosome be paired with another twosome or single in order to make new threesomes or foursomes, if people withdraw from the tournament.
Starting times will remain the same… If there is any change or delay they will be made in the morning so you need to be there ready to play at your assigned time. If there are withdrawals that leaves a single by him or herself, we would move them to an opening in another group.
As of right now, Rooster Run is planning on being open (although probably very wet). Unfortunately no call can be made until the day of the competition.
Ryan,
Has the NCGA ever thought of revisiting the policy of announcing changes (cancellations or postponements) before the day of the tournament? People take days off work as well as travel long distances in order to participate?
Hey Bergie,
Some of us are older and have a few more aches and pains when the weather turns cold and wet. But I am with you. Let’s go for it rain or shine. My body may not like it, but there’s always plenty of Ibuprofen.
to Ted Wong……
I am 49. My body hurts too. But we’re not digging ditches or putting new roofs on our house…..we’re playing golf and we’re not even walking the course….we’re riding in carts! Too many people don’t think like kids anymore. How about jumping in a puddle in the first fairway just to get over the whole “I don’t want to get wet” thing. I’m promising that over 1/2 the field is already beat tomorrow if it rains. Just play like a kid….enjoy the rain…..and load up on Ibuprofen at the turn and after the round and you’ll be good to go! See you at Spyglass!
