STEVINSON – The 4th Annual Junior Tour of Northern California Championship, presented by Capital Insurance Group, concluded today at Stevinson Ranch GC. The 36-hole stroke-play competition is the championship of three series of junior tournaments: Spring, Summer and Fall. Each series consists of five competitions. Championship entry was determined based on points acquired throughout the complete Junior Tour Series.
Justin Pagila of Dublin capitalized on his first-round lead to claim the top spot in the Boys Championship Flight. Pagila posted rounds of 69-73-142. William Brueckner finished in second place, carding a consistent 72-72-144. Elk Grove’s Andrej Bevins and Clovis’ Trevor Clayton tied for third place at 4-over-par 148.
In the Girls Championship Flight, last year’s champion, Casie Cathrea of Livermore, posted rounds of 69-74-143 to take the title. Cathrea had a strong lead after the first round, carding a powerful 3-under 69 with four birdies and an eagle. Jessica Luo earned second place honors with a score of 77-78-155. Marissa Hinchman of Lodi took third with rounds of 80-80-160.
Rashad Jaymes of Foster City moved up one place to win the Boys First Flight after posting scores of 81-77-158. Allan Silveira of Tracy carded a 162 overall to finish in second place. Zachary Mikus (Fresno) and Austin Riley (Pleasanton) tied for third-place honors at 23-over-par 167.
A cardoff settled a tie between the first-place finishers in the Girls First Flight. Josephine Chang of San Ramon captured the title while Kiran Sangha of San Mateo earned second place after both posting 172 overall. Lillian Torres of Fresno finished in third with rounds of 86-87-173.
Also announced at the conclusion of the event were players of the year awards based on overall performance during the 15-event Tour, including national tournaments and other events across California. Bryson DeChambeau captured the Boys’ Player of the Year award for 14-18 age group. On the strength of her championship at Stevinson, Casie Cathrea earned Girls’ Player of the Year honors for Girls 14-18 for the second year in a row. Cathrea plans to attend Oklahoma State University.
The Tour will start its fifth season with Spring Series competition commencing in March 2012.
