PEBBLE BEACH – The B.N.F. GC team of Bill Kastanis, Jerry Gage, Damien Galford and Craig Wesner held onto its first-round lead to capture the NCGA Associate Club Championship at Spyglass Hill.
B.N.F. GC posted a net 38-under 250 in the format that takes the best two of four net scores per hole. The back nine at tough Poppy Hills in the first round was especially kind to the team as it went 12 under to power to the first-round lead (B.N.F shot 17-under 127 in the second round at Spyglass Hill).
The PGG Laguna Seca GC team of Carlos Lomeli, Miguel Silva, Jonathan Middleton and Pedro Lomeli posted a second-round best net 124 to earn runner-up honors, finishing three strokes behind the champions. FFIC Fundster GC (Keith Langan, Peter Imbs, Judy Schroder and Robert Adra) dropped a place from the first round to finish third, four back of the winners.
The 30 teams competing for the title survived sectional and regional qualifying to make it to the championship. Modeled off the popular Zone Championship for regular clubs. the popular event showcases four-person teams from the more than 1,000 NCGA associate clubs – organizations not associated with a golf course, but, rather, a church, job or other group.
