On the front-nine, Hamilton posted a 4-under 32. Finishing in second place was San Francisco’s Ben Scribner at 71. The third and final automatic spot came down to a playoff between four players who came in at 72. Ben Peters of Redwood City won the playoff. The first alternate spot went to Chico’s Mike O’Donnell, while Mark Sanchez will be the second alternate. Silver Creek Valley Brisbane’s Kory Storer and Ryan Sloane of Campbell earned co-medalist honors, posting matching rounds of 4-under 67. Seaside’s Nick Moore, the defending NCGA Player of the Year, finished third at 69, The fourth and final automatic spot became a playoff between San Francisco’s Matt Cohn and Burlingame’s Aleksei Koika, who both finished at 70. Cohn emerged from the playoff to claim the fourth spot, with Koika getting the first alternate spot. Moore and Cohn competed in this year’s U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Winged Foot. Viboch, who won this year’s NCGA Four-Ball Championship title with partner Bobby Bucey, posted a medalist-earning 4-under 66 in an 18-hole qualifier held Monday at Spring Creek G&CC in Ripon. Viboch posted six birdies to go against just two bogeys. Finishing second at 69 was Sean Barrett of San Francisco. Michael Moreland of San Francisco was third at 70. Leading the way was medalist Jin Ho Chung of Cerritos, who came in with a score of 6-under 136 after posting rounds of 66-70. Also advancing was Granite Bay’s Bryan Baumgarten, who finished at 137 (67-70). Three players–Taylor Bromley of Dublin, Jonathan Keane of San Francisco and Ben Peters of Redwood City–all finished tied for third at 138. In a playoff, Bromley emerged as the winner, claiming the third automatic spot. The first alternate spot went to Peters, with Keane getting the second alternate spot. El Macero Christian Banke of Danville earned medalist honors, coming in with a score of 8-under 136 at par-72 El Macero GC in Davis. Banke made his big move in the afternoon round, shooting a 66 that featured eight birdies and two bogeys. Leading the field in the 36-hole qualifier was medalist Kevin Velo of Danville, who came in at 9-under 135 after posting solid rounds of 68-67. Velo’s day included a pair of eagles and 10 birdies to go against just five bogeys. The second and third automatic spots went Bradley Knox of Menlo Park (137) and San Ramon’s Louie Chen (138). Knox followed up an opening 71 with a brilliant 66 that featured seven birdies and just one bogey. Chen, meanwhile, went from a 73 to a 65, carding eight birdies and just one bogey. Chen would join recent NCGA Amateur Stroke Play champion Robby Salomon and Grady Smith of San Luis Obispo, who also shot 138, in a three-way playoff for the third and final automatic spot.
