Online Registration for New Look S.F. City Championship Underway
A year after celebrating its 100th birthday, the annual San Francisco City Championship is taking on a whole new look.
Known affectionately as ‘The City’, for the 2017 championship tournament officials have made some significant changes including recently launching a new, responsive website.
In another great move, the 101st championship (which opens Feb.18 with Open Flight qualifying and concludes March 19) will be contested solely where it all began—TPC Harding Park. For many years, qualifying rounds have also been held at Lincoln Park GC.
“The TPC Harding Park move was made possible with the help of (among others) San Francisco Parks and Rec, TPC Harding Park GM Tom Smith and the generous financial support of title sponsor Charles Schwab,” said tournament chairman Michael Miller.
In a move that players will love, thanks to only a minimal entry fee increase, the need to charge additional green for match play has been eliminated. The tournament will also go off in threesomes at 11-minute intervals in qualifying to improve pace of play and the overall feel of the tournament. Online sign-ups for the 2017 ‘The City’ started on Dec. 1. In the first five hours the tournament received 102 registrations online. A total of 550 players will compete across the various Open and Championship flights.
