Modesto’s Jeff Burda Wins SCGA Senior Championship

July 2, 2014

Modesto’s Jeff Burda left a Northern California footprint on this week’s annual SCGA Senior Championship.

Burda, the 2008 NCGA Senior Player of the Year, blitzed the field, shooting a final round 3-over 74 at par-71 Annandale Golf Club in Pasadena to win by 10 strokes. A three-time winner of the NCGA Master Division Championship, Burda finished the three-day, 54-hole event at 7-under 206.

Doug Williams of Los Angeles and Jim Knoll of Sunnyvale, who like Burda is also an SCGA member, both finished second at 3-over 216. Burda also won the championship in 2011.

In both the first and second rounds, Burda and Knoll were NorCal invaders. Burda went 10-under combined with rounds of 65-67, while Knoll, the reigning three-time NCGA Senior Player of the Year, shot 67-73. The two were the only players to enter Wednesday’s final round under par. Burda held a commanding eight stroke lead over Knoll.

Burda’s NCGA resume also includes wins at the 2010 NCGA Senior Championship and the 2012 NCGA Valley Senior Amateur Championship.

Ken Noonan of Pacific Grove also got into the act, finishing tied for fourth with three other players at 6-over 219.
