cameron-wilson-stanford_t640Two players with Northern California ties have been selected to compete in the upcoming Palmer Cup.

Cameron Wilson, a senior at Stanford, and Brandon Hagy, a senior at Cal, were named to the U.S. squad earlier this week during an announcement on The Golf Channel’s Morning Drive show.

The pair will be among 10 players representing Team USA in the international collegiate event, which pits top collegiate players in the U.S against their counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland in a Ryder Cup-style format.

This year’s Palmer Cup, named after legend Arnold Palmer, will be held June 26-28 at Walton Heath Golf Club outside of London.

Wilson, who’s currently at No. 5 in Golfweek’s Men’s Collegiate Individual Rankings, recently helped the Cardinal run away to a 16-shot win at the Western Intercollegiate at par-70 Pasatiempo GC in Santa Cruz by shooting a medalist-earning 7-under 203. Among those Wilson slipped by was teammate Patrick Rodgers, who currently the No. 1 ranked amateur on the planet.

Hagy, who entered this spring ranked as high as No. 3 collegiately and the No. 4 amateur in the world, helped lead the Bears to a third place finish at the Western Intercollegiate.

The head coach of the U.S. squad will be Cal’s Steve Desimone, who was inducted into the NCGA Hall of Fame in February.

Former outstanding collegiate players who have competed in the Palmer Cup include Luke Donald, 2009 U.S. Open champ Lucas Glover, 2010 U.S. Open champ Graeme McDowell, Charles Howell III and Dustin Johnson.
