Dublin’s Jacob Solomon Wins California Mid-Am

April 14, 2014

JacobJacob Solomon, a junior at Dublin High, shot a final round 75 and survived a playoff with Patrick Burda to win this past weekend’s California Medal Play Championship at par-72 Stevinson Ranch Golf Club.

Solomon, who has already verbally committed to the University of Auburn, won on the first playoff hole when Burda’s drive — thought to have gone straight down the middle — was never found.

The duo finished regulation tied for the lead at 9-over 153, with Burda carding a second-round 77. Sunday’s second round experienced extremely breezy conditions.

While Solomon took the overall title, Burda, 32, still a earned a trophy for winning the largest segment of the championship — the 25-and-over Mid-Am division. With his win in that division, Burda, who hails from Modesto, locked up a spot in the prestigious Stocker Cup, which is held annually at The Preserve GC in Carmel Valley in the fall.

Orangevale resident Dylan Neal finished in third place at 154 after rounds of 74-80. Fourth place was split between Ryan Perkins, Paul Rice and Amay Poria, who all came in at 156.

In the Senior Championship, California Golf Hall of Famer Casey Boyns was steady as a rock, posting back-to-back rounds of 71 for a 142 total and five stroke win over Dennis Dachtler. Dachtler shot 72-75.

Placing third was Ronald Collet at 151 (80-71).
