Ben Geyer Picks Up First Win as a Professional

March 14, 2014

geyerIt didn’t take very long for Northern California Golf Association alum Ben Geyer to prove he could win at the next level.

On Thursday, Geyer, the NCGA Player of the Year in both 2012 and 2013, posted a final round 4-under 67 to win the inaugural eGolf Tour West’s Arrowood Open at Arrowood Golf Club in Oceanside by four strokes.

The win was Geyer’s first as a professional.

“It feels amazing. I won a couple of times in college, and all of the best players in those events were in this event,” said Geyer, who finished the 54-hole event at 17-under 196. “I have a lot of respect for some of the older guys as well. Everyone is solid out here. It feels great to win against a field this good.”

During his time on the NCGA circuit, Geyer routinely beat some solid fields as well. His NCGA resume includes the 2013 NCGA Amateur Championship and 2012-2013 NCGA Stroke Play Championship titles.

The former St. Mary’s standout made his big move at Arrowood by going 65-64 over the first two rounds of the 54-hole event to take a four-stroke lead. Five straight pars to finish off his final round sealed the deal.

“I just wanted to take it one shot at a time today,” Geyer told the tour. “I wanted to make as many birdies as I could, but also allow for some easy pars. I got off to a good, solid start, which was refreshing and allowed me to trust it more.”

The $8,500 winner’s check moved Geyer up to No .4 on the tour’s money list ($14,250) and marked a third-straight top-15 effort on the season. A week ago he finished a then-career best T-5 at the Championship at Morongo.

The eGolf Tour West is part of the North Carolina-based eGolf Tour. The eGolf Tour West, which runs from September through May, features 20 events spread out between California, Nevada and Arizona.
