Six-time NCGA Player of the Year Randy Haag is headed to this year’s U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.

Haag, of San Francisco, fired a medalist-earning 6-under 66 in an 18-hole qualifier for the championship held Monday at par-72 Del Rio Country Club in Ripon. Haag’s round included seven birdies and just one bogey.

Finishing second and also moving on was Fresno’s Conrad Nilmeier, who shot 69.

Others advancing were Michael Staskus (70) of Los Altos, Jeff Burda of Modesto (71) and Bruce Hanavan of San Anselmo (71). Staskus won this year’s NCGA Senior Four-Ball title with partner Frank Pieper.

Pieper is the first alternate after shooting a 73. The second alternate is Kimble Cater of Salinas, who also had 73.

This year’s U.S. Senior Amateur Championship will be held Sept. 13-18 at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach.
