USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship Qualifying

San Rafael resident Rachel Moreaux and three others are on their way to this year’s U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

Moreaux shot 2-under 70 to earn medalist honors in an 18-hole qualifier for the championship held at Sonoma Golf Club. Moreaux carded five birdies, but also had a triple-bogey.

Finishing second and also advancing was Fairfield’s Tina Barker, who came in second at 75.

Sandy Woodruff of Santa Cruz had 76 to place third, while Georgia’s Bonnie Grizzard claimed the fourth automatic berth with a 78.

The first alternate is Rocklin’s Lynne Cowan, who came in at 78. Cowan won this year’s NCGA Senior Women’s Championship.

The second alternate is Pleasanton’s Lisa Cobler, who also shot 78.

This year’s U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship will be held Sept. 13-18 at Hollywood GC in New Jersey.
