A trio of players is on their way to this year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.

Jonas Mikals of Truckee, Zachary Solomon of Sacramento and David Bennett of Meadow Vista all advanced through a qualifier for the championship held Thursday at par-72 Rancho Murieta Country Club (North Course).

Both Mikals and Solomon shared medalist honors, as they each came in with matching scores of 2-under 70.

Bennett, meanwhile, shot 71 and beat San Francisco’s Matt Cohn in a playoff to earn the third and final automatic spot. Cohn, who also had 71, will be the first alternate.

The second alternate is Costa Tzikas of Sacramento, who finished at 72.

This year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will be held Sept. 6-11 at Saucon Valley CC in Pennsylvania.
