NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship Qualifying

Spots in the upcoming NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship were on the line as seven different courses held qualifiers for the event on Friday.

Over at Elkhorn GC, Micke Grove GC member Bunna Sam led the way with a medalist-earning score of 68. Sam was the only player to break 73. Overall, 11 spots were awarded in the qualifier at Elkhorn GC.

The Haggin Oaks GC qualifier saw 29 spots up for grabs. There, Jon Peterson, who plays out of Granite Bay GC, led the field with a stellar score of 66. Both Blake Abercrombie and Charles Johnson were next, carding identical 68’s.

At Paradise Valley GC, Brandon Wu of eClub East Bay and Craig Kilkoyne of Concord GC led the way with matching 72’s. Wu finished runner-up at the recent NCGA Amateur Stroke Play Championship, losing in extra holes to winner Bobby Bucey.

Over at Rancho Canada GC in Carmel Valley, Connor Blick led the field with a medalist-earning 67 on the East Course. Finishing second at 68 was Derek Ackerman, who plays out of Half Moon Bay GC.

The qualifier at Riverside GC had only seven spots available. Trevor Clayton claimed the top spot, shooting a sensational 64.

At Roddy Ranch GC, Kevin Fryer of Ruby Hill GC was medalist, carding a 68. Right behind Fryer at 69 was Brent Holmes, a member of eClub San Francisco, and Zach Smith of Castlewood CC.

Another qualifier at San Juan Oaks GC near Hollister saw Bradley Knox, a member of eClub San Francisco, take medalist honors with a score of 71.

This year’s NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship will tee off August 11-15 at Spyglass Hill.
