California State Fair Amateur Championship

SACRAMENTO – A three-player sudden-death playoff was needed to decide the 2013 California State Fair Championship. Joel Stalter, Cody Paladino and Brandon Hagy each finished the 155-player event with 54-hole scores of 14-under-par 202 at Haggin Oaks MacKenzie Course, with Paladino coming out on top in the playoff. Paladino was buoyed by a first and final round scores of 66 with a 70 sandwiched in between. Statler had rounds that progressively got better to finish near the top of the leaderboard, posting scores of 69, 67 and 66. Hagy also put together three sub-70 rounds, firing 67, 68 and 67 to get in the playoff.

Tied for fourth place at 12-under-par 204 were Maverick McNealy and Alex Franklin. McNealy had three rounds in the 60s (68-67-69), while Franklin had all even-numbered scores (70-66-68). Finishing in sixth place at 11-under-par 205 was Kenneth McCready with rounds of 69, 68 and 68. Tied for seventh place at 10-under-par despite each getting off to slow starts were Cody Blick and Lee Gearhart. Blick opened with a 71 following with a 66 and 69, while Gearhart opened with a 72 before following with a 66 and 68. Cameron Shaw and Owen Taylor rounded out the top-10, tying for ninth place with 54-hole scores of 9-under-par 207. Shaw had three consecutive 69s, while Taylor was in prime position for first place after two rounds following his 68 and 67 with a final round 72.
