CARMICHAEL – Austen Sandoval edged out Michael Grenz to become the 2013 Sacramento County Men’s Amateur Champion. Sandoval, who opened the 36-hole event with a one-over-par 73, closed with a five-under-par 67 to finish with a 140, four-under-par total. Grenz, who started the final round in a tie for second after opening with a three-under-par 69, closed with an even-par 72 to finish at 141, three-under and alone in second.

Six players bunched up and finished in a tie for third place at 142, two-under-par, those included were: Bryan Wise, Brandon Baumgarten, Jesse Goldstein, Amol Mahal, Owen Taylor and Matt Williams. Wise made up the most ground of the group closing with a three-under-par 69, while Goldstein took the furthest step back firing a 74 after opening with a 68 and the outright lead. Baumgarten similarly regressed with a final round 73, while Mahal show consistency with back-to-back 71s. Taylor and Williams both improved on their opening rounds of 72 by each following it with a 70.

Alone in ninth at even-par 144 was Taylor Knoll with rounds of 73 and 71. A gang of other players rounded out the top 10 at 145, one-over-par as the five players tied for 10th were Chris Johnson, Dave Baskins, Chris Macasaet, Austin Roberts and Julian Woodfork.
