MONTEREY – Cory McElyea continued his spectacular summer with a win at the Monterey City Amateur at Del Monte GC over the weekend. The newly christened California State Amateur Champion had a 54-hole total of 205, 11-under-par to win the tournament by five strokes. Coming in second place in a three-way tie at 210 six-under-par were Casey Boyns, Jack Mulroy and Cody Robinson. Alone in fifth was Austin Roberts at 212, four-under-par, while tied for sixth place were JT Harper and Walker Huddy at 213, three-under-par. Michael Tolladay and Jordan Weir tied for eighth at even-par 216, while four players tied for 10th place at 218, two-over-par: Joe Huston, Nick Noya, Matt Ogden and Johnny Partridge.

The 36-hole senior division, which took place over the first two days on Friday and Saturday, saw Casey Boyns win rather comfortably. Boyns’ two-day total of 137, seven-under-par was seven shots better than second place finisher Rob Adolph at 144, even-par. Third place belonged to current NCGA Senior Player of the Year and senior points leader Jim Knoll who finished at 145, one-over-par. Terry Foreman finished fourth at 146, two-over-par, while tied for fifth at 150, six-over-par were Scott Anderson and Doug Johnson.
