U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship Qualifying

Haggin Oaks GC
June 22-23, 2013

SACRAMENTO – Will Brink and John Burke shared medalist honors at Haggin Oaks GC on Sunday and were two of three players to qualify for next month’s U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

Brink shared a three-stroke advantage along with Owen Taylor after Saturday’s opening 18 holes as both players opened up with a five-under-par 67. Brink was able to follow that up with a final round of two-over-par 74 for a 141, three-under total. Burke was out of one of the three qualifying slots after a first round of one-under-par 71 putting him in a tie for fourth place, but he rallied for his second round and fired a two-under-par 70 to finish tied atop with Brink.

The third and final qualifying spot went to Austin Smotherman, who needed to beat out first round co-leader Taylor in a playoff. Both players finished with a score of 144, with Smotherman firing rounds of 71 and 73, while Taylor followed his first round 67 with a 77. By default of losing the playoff Taylor earned first alternate, while second alternate went to Barrett McLaughlin alone in fifth place at 145.

The U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will be held July 15-20 at Laurel Hill GC in Lorton, Va.
