MONTEREY –The North Valley Zone Championship wrapped up Tuesday at Del Monte GC and crowned Brooktrails GC as its champion. The Brooktrails GC team featuring Scott Kopman, Steve Lunde, Dan Pabalate and Edmund Tepas matched their score of 122 from Monday to total 244, 42-under par for 36 holes. In a format which takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team, Brooktrails GC had plenty of red on its scorecard, which included a net triple-eagle, a net double-eagle, five net eagles and six net birdies to go along with a net bogey. The quartet of players’ 22-under par score separated it from the rest of the field as the first round co-leaders took a seven-stroke victory.
Finishing as runner-ups in the event was the team from Little River Inn GC consisting of Bobby Burdick, Gary Roach, Russell Roach and Terry Stratton. Little River Inn GC started the day alone in third place, but finished tied for second with Yolo Fliers Club at 251 after 36 holes. After the first hole of a sudden-death playoff Little River Inn survived and advanced to the championship proper.
