PEBBLE BEACH – Qualifiers for the 19th Annual NCGA Associate Club Net Amateur Championship took place at nine different courses across Northern California on Thursday with plenty of net under-par scores.

Empire Ranch was the most competitive of the nine qualifying sites as eight players qualified with a score of 66 or better. The low of the day also came out of that site with Simon Xiao firing a net score of 60. On the other hand Monarch Bay played rather tough with the low score coming in at 69 by Bruce Baxter. In total at Monarch Bay 14 players qualified with a net score of 76 or better.

Deer Ridge GC and Mather GC provided similar results as the low score at each of the respective sites was 63 with the final qualifying scores getting in with a 70. Michael Bissing fired the 63 at Mather GC, while two players, Gilbert Castillo and Andrano Cota posted 63s at Deer Ridge GC.

Poppy Hills GC held the largest qualifier on the day with 24 players qualifying from the site. Marty Johnson led the way putting together a net round of 63, while the final five players to qualify carded rounds of 73. To the north of Pebble Beach in Hollister at Ridgemark GCC nine players qualified with the low coming in at 66 by Richard Borjon and Bruce Evans.

Mare Island GC and Castle Oaks GC each allocated eight spots for the championship. Evan Goodness led the way at Castle Oaks GC with a 65, while Ron Sharek was the only under-par net score at Mare Island with a 68.

Sunnyvale’s qualifying results had yet to arrive by Friday morning. All results are unofficial until the NCGA staff has reviewed the scorecards from each of the qualifying sites. The championship proper will take place October 1-2 at Poppy Ridge GC.
