PEBBLE BEACH – The East Sacramento Zone Championship concluded Tuesday afternoon with a net eagle on the final hole deciding the tournament. Gregory Cates, B.J. Erickson, Dave Jacks and Frankie McDermott of Northridge CC posted a tournament total of 249, 37-under par to come away with a two stroke victory.
The team of four from Northridge CC started the round on hole number 10 and got off to the ideal start for a team entering the day with the lead. The zone tournament was set up where the two best scores on a hole from a four person team are recorded. This format allowed Northridge CC to open with one net eagle and four net birdies through their first five holes to take a commanding lead. A slow start on the final nine holes allowed Peter Ames,Jason Herrera,Kris Thomas and Michael Williams of Antelope Greens GC the opportunity to shoot a low score and contend for the lead. Despite shooting a final round 125, 19-under par, Antelope Greens GC finished two shots off the lead.
Rounding out the top five was Sierra View CC finishing in third and Morgan Creek GC and La Contenta GC finishing in a tie for fourth. Morgan Creek GC posted the low score of the day with a 121, 23-under par, but the deficit proved too much after being 13 shots off the lead after day one.
Northridge CC and Antelope Greens GC will advance to the NCGA Zone Championship August 27-28 at Poppy Hills GC and Spyglass Hill GC.
