MODESTO – Andre Navarro of Denair beat Stockton’s Josh Stone in a sudden-death playoff to win the Modesto City Championship at Dryden Park GC. Both players finished 36-holes of competition at a score of 136, 8-under par. Sam Smith of Turlock, who just finished his junior year with the USC golf team, came alone in third with a score of 138, 6-under par. Sam’s younger brother Paul (Smith) finished alone in fourth with a two-day total of 2-under par 142. In a tie for fifth were Modesto resident Patrick Burda and Jamie Looper of Oakdale at even-par 144.

In the senior division Peter Moren claimed his fourth first place finish of the year with a two-day total of 8-over par, 152. His score edged out Turlock resident Ken Webb, who finished one shot back at 153. Dave Wood of Salida finished alone in third at 155, while former senior player of the year and Modesto resident Rob Thompson finished in fourth at 156. Rounding out the top five was Larry Krogness of Sonara, with a two-day aggregate of 157.
