Junior Tour Spring Series III

Spring Series III
The Reserve at Spanos Park
March 31-April 1, 2012

Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group (CIG), Spring Series III provided some sizzling golf, despite cold and windy conditions for part of the tournament.

Boys Championship Flight Winners: Austin Weatherholt (1st), Justin Pagila (2nd) and Jacob Solomon (3rd).

First place in the Boys Championship Flight went to Austin Weatherholt, who came from behind with an unbelievable final round 69. Despite tough, windy conditions throughout the tournament, Austin was able to card six birdies on Sunday to finish with a total of 145. Due to darkness, Austin won a scorecard playoff against Justin Pagila, who also finished at 145. Justin was co-leader after the first round with a 71, but unfortunately, stumbled a bit coming home in the final round. It took a great round on Sunday to take the lead, but that’s exactly what Austin was able to do. Jacob Solomon shot a very strong 71 on the final day to finish in third with a total of 147. Jacob placed by winning a scorecard playoff against Hayden Shieh who also finished at 147.

For his first win on the Junior Tour this season, Daniel Pena took first place in the Boys First Flight. After a 79 on the first day, Daniel shot a tremendous score of 73 in the final round that was highlighted by four birdies on his card. His 152 total was nine strokes clear of his nearest competitor. Ryan Hollaway was that nearest competitor as he took second with a total of 163. One stroke back in third place was Rajvir Bedi, who won in a card-off with Alex Zhu and Brendan Hy.

Carly Childs shot lights out this past weekend with rounds of 73-70 for a one under total of 143 to win the Girls Championship Flight by six strokes. She owned the back nine of the course this entire weekend, as she collectively shot six under for that nine for the two days. Carly’s final round 70 was matched by Sara Scarlett, who shot her own two under par final round 70. Sara sizzled with five birdies on Sunday to vault past most of the field to take runner up in a card off with Monique Riley. Monique had four birdies of her own on Sunday to card a solid 73 for her total of 149.

The Girls First Flight showed off Yealimi Noh’s formidable game. Yealimi won for the third straight weekend with rounds of 77-82. Her 159 total was six strokes better than second place finisher Reisha Savadatti who won in a card-off with Kenness Cheung, who took the medal for third place.
